Berks Veterinary Ultrasound, LLC

Helping Your Veterinarian Help Your Pet

About

Berks Veterinary Ultrasound was started in 2003 by Dr. Jason Tomes. Dr. Tomes grew up outside of Chicago and did his undergrad work at the University of Illinois. He continued his education at the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 1983. He then completed a one-year post-doc medicine, surgery and teaching program at Purdue University's College of Veterinary Medicine. In 1984 he moved to Berks County and worked in general practice until 2003. At that time he started Berks Veterinary Ultrasound and has limited his practice to mobile ultrasound work since. He has been ultrasounding patients since 1993, after having purchased one of the first machines for general veterinary practice in Pennsylvania.

Dr. Tomes has been actively involved with the International Veterinary Ultrasound Society since 2006. In addition to IVUSS, Dr. Tomes is a member of the Veterinary Ultrasound Society, American Veterinary Medical Association, Pennsylvania Veterinary Medical Association, and the Schuylkill Valley Veterinary Medical Association.

Locally, Dr. Tomes has been on a number of TV programs and co-hosted a weekly radio show about pet health care.

In his spare time Dr. Tomes enjoys bicycling, skiing, reading, cooking, gardening, music, working on his pond, and spending time with family. He and his wife have two dogs, a Standard Poodle and a Giant Schnauzer. Much to the relief of his wife, he has extricated himself from soccer coaching and soccer boosters, and now they enjoy watching his son play college ball.
